POP-masu!!!
This BMT phase had been a very memorable experience for me. I've seen myself grown both mentally and emotionally - and physically, of course.
Before I went to the army, I was thinking to myself - given the chance to avoid NS, I would definitely do so. Now reflecting back, I am glad that Singapore implemented national service. It's IMPERATIVE that all boys should go through NS.
One of the most memorable experience was the 24km road marches. Wearing your uniform, LBV, helmet, and carrying your rifle and bloody heavy field pack and marching throughout uneven ground for 24km. It's one of the most physically gruelling activities out there. And guess what, on the start of our march, it rained dogs and cats. Yet, we continued marching throughout the rain for eight hours. It was freaking cold. I felt so manly after I finished the bitter ordeal. And all of us got abrasion after the whole thing. Abrasion isn't fun. It bleeds and makes you walk as if you have 'tua lan pa'.
And of course, Passing Out Parade itself. It was a proud moment when our parents went out to place our jockey caps on our heads. And flinging it with abandon into the air. I'll really miss the times I had with my bunk mates. All the wise jokes we cracked, all the help they had offered. National Service by nature is horrible, but eating shit with my bunk mates makes a torturous camp into an enjoyable experience.
Signing off, I'll be going for a youth camp later in the evening.
