This is a short piece of work I wrote last week; took about one and the half hours to complete it. I decided to post it here again due to lack of category - and for those who are working on their english.
This piece of work is dedicated to...
Samuel - For always encouraging me to write, and reading ALL my fics since I posted works online.
Moses - For being an ass on sad epilogues. And let's find some time to do up my ugly blog... and return your harddisk.
Here it goes... (I know people only like lemon fics *sigh*, it's not.)
***************
The slanted rays of the evening sun filtered through the leafy, upper branches of the trees in the forest, bathing the unconscious woman in its golden glory.
Saber stirred, and blinked away vestiges of sleep. She remembered seeing a dream for a while. A realistic, eldritch dream of her allying with strangely-dressed people against the other heroes of the ages...
"And of a hard-headed orange-haired youth... "
Saber strained her mind, trying to extract more out of that nebulous dream, but that was all she could ever recall. It was as if her memories were encased in an iceberg. For a person who hardly dreams, it was an invaluable experience.
Saber sighed and coughed out a bit of blood, her breathing ragged and shallow.
"Wind brushing against her face... sunlight warming her bones... feel of wet, clean grass beneath her... woody scent of the forest... birds chirping their song merrily... tidal gold of dust-motes spinning lazily."
"Is it only when one's life is waning that one appreciates how beautiful is the world?"
Saber propped herself up against the oak tree to ease her breathing. The sound of a galloping horse drew near, and she raised her head slowly.
"My king, I have given your sword to the lady of the lake."
"I see... " Saber replied weakly. "Be proud of thyself, Bedivere, you have obeyed my orders."
Bedivere's heart sank; he knew that the great knight was dying ? her eyes were starting to glaze. He fought back his tears that were threatening to spill.
Saber was losing all bodily sensations, her vision wavering and slowly dimming.
"Bedivere... my slumber... this time... it might be long."
After that wonderful dream, somehow, she felt at peace with herself, her heavy burden as King lifted off her shoulders. No longer did she blame herself for ruining her country.
Saber died with no regrets.
"I wish to see the continuation of that dream... "
***************
"HRAGHH."
A shockwave pulsing from the ground woke her up from slumber. Saber cracked open an eyelid. A slender man in blue with a sanguine lance was fighting against a giant wielding an ax-sword.
"I was wondering when you will ever wake up ? at long last, sleeping beauty!"
Saber turned towards the direction of that rich, baritone voice. A dark, muscular man with bone-white spiky hair stared back at her, smiling cockily.
Saber stood up and smoothen her skirts.
"Where am I? I haven't seen this place before." She asked. Her surroundings were ? beautiful beyond description.
"Where are you? This is Avalon." he stated. "A utopia where heroes feasts and battles to their heart's content." As if to prove his point, the man took an apple from a golden bowl and crunched into it leisurely.
Saber narrowed her eyes and stared intently at the man.
"What?" The man raised his arms, still munching on his apple.
"You look very familiar ? what's your name."
The man's eyes widened and blinked a couple of times, startled at the question. He regained his composure, and cleared his throat.
"I am Emiya Shirou." He answered, as if she asked the most obvious question.
"Emiya Shirou... " The very name made her heart leapt. Saber's head spun from memories flooding in a tidal wave. "Emiya Shirou... "
"Yes?"
Saber jolted out of reverie. She had just whispered his name out loud unconsciously. Blushing furiously, she racked her mind for a believable excuse.
The blood-red lance flew from the lancer's hand and stabbed into the ground. "Nice one, Hercules. One more round!"
The answer lighted up. Saber unsheathed her sword.
"Let's see how much you improve, Shirou." She announced triumphantly.
Archer smiled, eyes glinting in anticipation. "Bring it on."
He 'imaged' two Chinese falchions.
Saber laughed and lunged towards the man she loved a long time ago...
